African Gallop is a percussion quartet for African percussion instruments that explores the modernizing of traditional African Music. One of the basic concepts of the African percussion repertoire is “call and response,“ and the composer retain this concept in this work while at the same time creating a hybrid with Western compositional approaches, such as controlled indeterminacy. He also explore the timbre of African percussion instruments including the talking drum, djembe and log drum. This work aims to expose audiences to a new sound in percussion music.
